So What Does LifeLock Do Exactly?

In simple terms, they watch for use of your personal information and alert you if anything comes up. They will also take steps to fix situations where your identity has been compromised.

One thing to note is that neither LifeLock, or any other company, can completely stop identity theft. They actually got in a lot of trouble over this (see the Legal Issues section below for more) because they were overstating what their service could do. LifeLock is a really good service just be aware that this is not 100% protection against identity theft.

Legal Issues

LifeLock has had some problems in the past with the way they advertised their services. The FTC fined them because they seemed to be saying that they could totally protect people from ID theft. This isn’t really possible.

As we said earlier, we think LifeLock is a really valuable service. LifeLock will alert you to suspicious activity and you’ll know much faster than without them. Their product has a lot of really useful features. They’ll help you fix the situation too. But it doesn’t make you invulnerable to ID theft.
