Ah, taxes, a word that strikes fear into the hearts of many. It makes you think about the IRS, audits, and all sorts of unpleasant things.
Well, it doesn’t have to be a nightmare. You can take your taxes and have them done for you, though that’s the most expensive route. Many people are now using tax preparation software or online versions to do their taxes themselves for less. Most of the vendors have a free version with add-ons that you may or may not need.
Below we have our tax preparation software reviews.
Tax Preparation Software Reviews
TurboTax
TurboTax has been around for over 30 years, allowing people to do taxes from their own home. They are expensive but offer a great user experience.
H&R Block
H&R Block is very well known because of their 12,000+ store locations but they also have quality tax prep software.
Jackson Hewitt
Jackson Hewitt is the second largest tax preparer in the U.S. with 6,300+ stores. They have online software as well, though it’s missing a few key features of its competitors.
TaxAct
TaxAct is a good deal for those on a smaller budget. It’s missing some of the polish and features of the more expensive competitors but for the price, it’s a good deal.
TaxSlayer
TaxSlayer is a budget priced tax prep program that doesn’t sacrifice the user experience because of the lower price.
FreeTaxUSA
FreeTaxUSA is one of the cheapest options around for doing your own taxes. You’ll still need to pay to file your state taxes but you’ll still be hard pressed to file for less.
