CheckSmart first opened up in 1987, somewhere in the United States. Vague? Yes, but finding info on the company is hard. These payday lender reviews were meant to include only lenders that have online operations. It appears that CheckSmart does not.
Their website is pretty bare bones. You can click on a state they operate in and find what services their stores offer in that state. We looked for online options and they aren’t there.
So looking back at the site over the years it looks like it went up in 1998. In 2008 for a brief period where they had the option to get a loan online but later that year it was gone. Over time the number of states they operate in has continued to decline.
What does this mean? It sounds like the business is in trouble and not operating online cuts out a large portion of the potential business. But maybe they just run a really lean business.

The BBB page(s) for the company is equally unhelpful. We were unable to locate a central page for the business. Normally there will be a page for many of the store locations and then a page for the headquarters that ends up with all of the complaints and reviews. Not here.
