Identity Guard Review
Identity Guard provides many of the same services as their competitors like LifeLock and IdentityForce. To be honest most of these identity protection services are very similar. They offer several different packages, with the high-end ones generally including credit reports and scores.
We found the service packages with Identity Guard to be confusing, which we’ll get into detail more in the features section below. Overall though we found their service to be effective and they had the features we look for in an identity protection company.
Features
Identity Guard will protect your identity in a number of ways. All levels of service provide credit monitoring (this is not the same as seeing your reports and scores), monitoring of bank accounts, credit cards, and applications for credit. They’ll also watch out for changes of address, monitoring of the “Dark Web” for uses of your identity and give you access to browser extensions that can help keep you safe.
Their service also includes a $1 million insurance coverage in case you suffer losses due to identity theft. They also offer access to up to $2,000 with their lost wallet service.
One of the plans features IBMs Watson (you may remember this as the supercomputer that went on Jeopardy!). The claim is that with the help of Watson they can identify patterns and recognize identity theft that others can’t. Honestly, we don’t know how much of this is actually helpful or how much is just a good sounding marketing angle. But there you have it.
Plans & Pricing
Identity Guard has three packages as seen below. We read over each one and we were left a bit confused as to what the difference is between them or if we need multiple packages to get full coverage. Thankfully they do offer a short quiz that you can take to help decide on what you need.
Identity Guard with Watson – $19.99/month – This package provides all of their identity protection features with the help of IBMs Watson supercomputer. This package will monitor your credit profiles but you don’t get to see the reports or scores.
Total Protection – $19.99/month – This package provides you with your credit reports and scores from the 3 bureaus quarterly. It also offers all of the identity protection features as the package above minus Watson. This is where we’re a bit confused. It’s the same price as the Watson one but you get your credit reports and scores 4 times a year. Without knowing what Watson really does this seems like a way better deal.
Platinum – $24.99/month – The Platinum package is their most expensive one. It has all the features of Total Protection but instead of getting your reports and scores quarterly you get them monthly. Still no Watson. It seems odd there isn’t a package with all of them, credit scoring and Watson.
